The October 4th program of sur/renderings: Dancing While Black 2025 Fellowship Showcase gathers three choreographers exploring resilience, remembrance, and healing.
From blooming flowers of resistance to the life cycles of Black women and girls from Milwaukee’s Northside to spells for release and love, these works move through joy, grief, and transformation. Together, they remind us of the power of Black dance to nurture both self and community.

Spells for Falling
Description:
"A sharing of practices to mitigate trauma and create a pathway to more authentic embodiment
I share these spells with you in the hopes that they can help you fall
Fall into your releasing
Fall into inner reflection
Fall into safe spaces
Fall into community
Fall into conversations with your inner child
Fall in love with yourself
Fall in love with yourself again
And
Fall in love with all the versions of you yet to come
May these help you move through and hold what may not be bearable in these times and the future”
