About the Event

Panel 12:30 pm

How has improvisation been a technology for Black thriving? How has Black improvisation been a foundation for the dance field? Join a diverse panel of dance leaders as they contemplate the power and urgency of Black improvisational dance practice. The dynamic conversation will be fostered by Hank Smith, Melanie George, Millicent Johnnie and hosted by Aimee Cox.

Performance 2:00 pm

You don’t want to miss this: A stellar lineup of Black dance improvisers spend a day together in the studio cross-pollinating practices and breaking bread. The next day they perform for us, sharing their collective, improvisational embodiments of thriving. This magical gathering of multigenerational and multidisciplinary artistry includes choreographers Dianne McIntyre, Marlies Yearby, Nia Love, Lacina Coulibaly, Christal Brown, Ana “Rokafella” Garcia, Jason Samuels Smith, and musicians Jocelyn Pleasant, Imani Uzuri and others! Did we say you don’t want to miss this? We mean it, this is Black dance history in the making.

Dance Party 4:00 pm

And to close the 10th Anniversary Season (and bring in the next 10 years) we gotta DANCE.

Under the Donation option, we suggest you choose $0, $10, or $20, but you are welcome to give more if you are able to underwrite others' attendance and the true cost of creating such events.

About our sliding scale ticket cost: We value both accessibility and class analysis, and leveraging privilege to support others in our community. We ask that you pay on the scale according to your ability, in order to support access, and engage in interdependence in action. The practice of choosing a rate that is both affordable and heartfelt is a mindfulness and justice-seeking practice. We will not question your self-determined rate.
